Why a Swimming Pool?

In addition to providing a place to teach water safety, a community pool supports the need for physical activity and exercise - which is vital for community health and well-being.

Young and old, we all benefit from having year-round resources available to stay active and fit. In our climate, year-round facilities are key and an indoor community pool is one resource Petoskey has always lacked.

Everybody can use it!

Rain or Shine. Snowy or Sunny. Winter or Summer - everybody can enjoy a pool.

Swimming is one of the few fitness activities that is aerobically intense without being high impact.

Swimming is terrific for people of all fitness levels, particularly beginning exercisers, the elderly,  people with health conditions or people recovering from injuries.

Designed properly, a community pool will support school teams, physical education, age group club teams, regional competitions, open swims, lessons, water safety instruction, water polo, scuba classes, kayak programs, group exercise and many other community activities.
